Doghouse Forge Shares Their Story

Bladesmithing is one of the fastest growing fired arts.  Jonathan Porter, and his team, have forged a successful manufacturing business as well as a thriving teaching studio.  As a fan favorite on the popular Forged In Fire television show, Jonathan has fond memories and some secret insights from that experience.  In this podcast episode, Jonathan tells his story and gives us a back stage look into the world of knife making.  You’ll want to become on of Jonathan’s more than 57,000 followers on Instagram.  https://www.instagram.com/doghouseforge/

IN HOUSE

At DogHouse Forge we keep almost all of our build and material processing in house. From wood stabilizing and forging our own steel blends to heat treatment and hardness testing the products are more consistent  because we are in control.  For us, it’s a quality thing. The more we can do ourselves, the smaller the margins for error and the less we have to rely on others. This is one of the things that truly makes DogHouse Forge unique.  We aren’t limited to the materials available from distributors or other common resources in our industry. We have the freedom to explore and build new handle materials or Damascus designs. We can run test on performance and get lab quality results on our blades from our own hardness tester.  This means you have more options available when designing your knife and that you will not receive anything but the best from DogHouse Forge.

Damascus

There is a certain satisfaction when the first step in your operation is making the steel that will later become your product. At DogHouse Forge we make all of the Damascus that we use.  This guarantees the quality of the steel we are using is the best that we can get our hands on. Through experimentation and lots of  hours of hard work, we have really been able to develop some beautiful patterns that translate beautifully into knives.
