This magic serum stops problems from happening, fixes problematic areas, and resurrects problem pieces. What is it, you may ask?!? How is it used? This is called APT II Ceramic Enhancer. It is an
“acrylic emulsion additive that is food safe and non-toxic. It cleans up with water and has an indefinite shelf life. Usage techniques and firing methods are not altered. It will thicken all brands of slip and clay bodies, enabling the ceramist to attach mend and create surface decorations. This process can be performed on greenware, bisque or finished glaze pieces.”
In my personal experience, I use APT II as a slip mender. Mainly because
Bonding occurs immediately.
· Mended area dries to the same softness as the greenware.
· Mended area may be cleaned immediately.
· Mended area does not shrink and leave a stress crack.
· Colors and glazes adhere to mended area without showing a difference in color.
· Slip mixture will adhere to glaze fired surfaces.
· Slip mixture will not produce odors or acid fumes in kiln.
While porcelain is a delicate body to work with, this clay offers some stunning qualities that are unmatched by others. Often, delicacies have their dangerous sides, like a sea urchins deadly allure, if prepared improperly it can be catastrophic. Porcelains purity and fine particles make it as beautiful as it is hard to work with. Attaching pieces to porcelains can be difficult and ultimately frustrating. That’s where APTII comes in. Use this stuff as you score and create a slurry directly on your pieces by adding a few drops, wiggle and press that attachment on and watch the potion ooze out. You want that serum to stiffen up for five to 10 minutes to then go back and press into place using a rubber tool or a wooden throwing stick to seal the seam. This trick will ensure secure addition and less chance to see stress cracks. Compression is always key with clay. Those molecules need to be pushed in place and given direction, but APT II will help the process tremendously.
This solution can also be used for mending greenware, bisque ware, and finished glazed pieces, while also being used in decorating ceramics and many processes within. It can really do amazing things! Check them out at
